The A-4E attack aircraft entered service in January 1963, becoming the first second-generation Skyhawk attack aircraft equipped with the new J52-P engine, more powerful and more fuel efficient. In 1973, several dozen vehicles of a later modification were transferred to Israel directly from the US Navy. During its operations in the Israeli Air Force, the vehicles underwent modernization in the early 70s, during which the standard armament and the tail of the fuselage were changed. The maximum speed - over 980 km/h. Armed with two 30 mm DEFA 553 guns, and can be equipped with following options of the suspended weaponry: two “air-to-air” missiles AIM-9B Sidewinder, two AGM-62A Walleye ER guided bombs, up to three 20 mm Mk.11 mod 5 gun containers, Zuni Mk32 and FFAR Mighty Mouse unguided rockets, and also can carry bombs up to 2000 lb caliber. Additionally, the fighter is equipped with chaffs and flares.
