In comparison to the regular Type 69 available in the research tree, this modification has smoke grenade launchers, as well as turret bar screens useful against shaped-charge munitions. The tank is capable of reaching a maximum speed of up to 50 km/h. The Type 69-IIa is armed with a 100 mm rifled gun with two-point stabilizer and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun and also a AA 12.7 mm machine gun.
