The MiG-21 Bison is a modernized variant of the export MiG-21bis, developed in the mid-90s. Officially, this aircraft modernization was designated MiG-21UPG, but was later named to Bison. With this upgrade, this fighter received a new radar system capable of using radar-guided missiles, a new targeting complex of onboard electronics and computing, as well as a helmet-mounted sighting system. This model was in service with the Indian Air Force until 2023 and was actively used in various missions, including the Kargil War of 1999.

The MiG-21 Bison is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 2170 km/h and is armed with a 23 mm GSh-23L cannon. Its arsenal includes R-27R1, R-27T1, or R-73E air-to-air guided missiles, S-8KO unguided rockets, 500 and 1000 pound bombs, as well as 500 kg KAB-500Kr guided bombs.
